Reading, Writing, Artistic Expression

Working through these frigid months, the students have demonstrated remarkable resourcefulness and teamwork.   The following is sampling of the work the students have been doing in Grade 7 and Grade 8:

They completed their final work on their Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe vocabulary, plus reading comprehension, and personal writing and artistic responses to their reading.   The students also completed their mock video interviews with characters from the story, authoring and editing point-of-view pieces in groups that brought awe and laughter to the audience.  Focus and creativity, as well as skilled wordplay, abounded in the creative teams!

The students presented their Greek language and culture projects in Social Studies class, and studied Greek word origins in the English language.

In Math the Grade 7s are working on fractions, and the Grade 8s are developing their formula calculation skills for volume.

Final completion of written and audio or video advertisements was due in Science, and presented this week.  Products related to viscosity were pitched this week, with prices ranging from a few dollars to millions!

The students continue to work with prefixes, suffixes, and root/base words in both grades, and continue to develop their writing skills as related to personal recounts, creative storytelling, and research essays.  Their most recent work demonstrates growing capacity for writing effective conclusions, and editing for transitions within a piece of writing.

Poetry study will be ongoing over the next six weeks, as the students explore and write their own poetry during mini-workshops on Thursdays.

If you have questions regarding your child's learning at any time, I look forward to an opportunity to speak with you!

Stay warm!  Spring IS coming (to Narnia, and to Winnipeg!).

Warm regards,
Mrs. Butterfield
